I consider myself a person who is pretty Facebook-savvy so when it came to my attention a few months ago that my profile had an entire vault of messages tucked away in the ‘Other’ folder, I was surprised and curious.
Surprise turned to mild irritation when I realized that the folder contained several messages from old friends who were trying to reach out to me.
After scrolling through many of these elusive messages my mood improved and irritation turned to pure amusement.
I felt like I had struck comic gold.
In an attempt to filter spam from their user inbox’s, Facebook has provided millions with yet another mindless way to spend time on its site – exploring the ‘Other’ folder. A place where you can potentialy find a rich array of messages sent by people you know (who facebook has disqualified as friends because they are not on your profile), wannabe lovers, stalkers, creeps, sales people and others who are looking to make romantic connections online because they either fail miserably at it in real life or have not discovered the marvels of online dating as yet.
Based on feedback from friends (mostly women) residing in various parts of the world, many of which had no clue what the ‘Other’ folder was, it seems that South Asia provides some of the more entertaining material that’s worth sharing. What’s even better is that in most cases, the comedy is unintentional.
I now present some highlights from various ‘Other’ folders.
For those of you who still don’t know what I am talking about, you will have to go to the side bar of your homepage to access messages where you will see ‘Other’ highlighted in grey adjacent to ‘Inbox’.
