Eating Healthy can seem as difficult as it is necessary. But it really isn’t- Neither does eating healthy means going without or eating food that doesn’t taste good at all.
Here are 5 alternates to substitute for unhealthy food that we find difficult to do without.
Fries and Chips
There is hardly a better snack than salty and savory crisps or hot, salted fries. But they are cholesterol laden and high in Sodium- not something you want in your body in access.
Popcorn with no butter or make them with kale, apple slices, sweet potatoes, zucchini or plantain.
Deep fried, covered in white bread crumbs, and usually full of preservatives, chicken nuggets are a recipe for disaster- but just as tasty and addictive.
Healthier Choice: Grill your own chicken breast and cutting into fun shapes or strips.
Life is super easy with canned tomatoes- they make dishing together a sauce or a soup as easy as ABC. But its not the best of choices health wise. The linings of the tin cans have a resin which contains bisphenol-A, or BPA- a synthetic estrogen linked to heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and even obesity.
Freezing tomatoes- You can do it any way you like- raw whole tomatoes, chopped or puréed. They are best used in soups, sauces and stews as they become mushy when they’re thawed.
Store Bought Salad Dressings
Theseare full of unhealthy fats, salts, sugars, artificial flavors and colors and simply negate the purpose of eating salads-which is to be healthy.
Make a big jar of this easy-to-make, low calorie dressing using olive oil, lemon, salt pepper and herbs of your choice and keep it in the fridge. You can alter the recipe in many ways by generally using ingredients like olive oil, salt and pepper, vinegar, lemon juice, garlic, honey, herbs, mustard etc.
Butter-Flavored Microwave Popcorn
They are tasty and addictive but full of unhealthy chemicals.
Make your own popcorn in a hot air popping machine or simply in a pot on the stove.
Use corn kernel, melt butter, pour on and sprinkle with salt. If you want to spice it up use your choice of spices like curry, etc.
