They went in pairs, dressed as a bride and groom, and guess what! Eight years later they tied the knot for real.
Before they actually got married, they hardly knew each other. The Paris Hitch rules state that men and women should travel in pairs for safety matters. Even though Sam had never talked to Adrian before, she liked him and mustered up the courage to ask Adrian to do the hitch with her. Their plan was to walk around Amsterdam dressed as a bride and groom so that people would stop by and offer us a lift.
Their trick worked and they got rides from so many people. But since neither could speak well in French, they stopped explaining what they were doing and made people believe they were a married couple. They even got a free lift on a cross-channel ferry where the captain offered them a meal.

They spent the day taking a trip down the Seine, exploring the Eiffel tower, and later had dinner at a French restaurant. It was obvious until then that the both liked each other. Well, they didn’t win the challenge but they were able to raise £200 for charity. The couple grew closer when they went back to UK. Adrian even made a real wedding-like video compilation of the trip and set it on the song ‘You look beautiful tonight.’
But what really made the deal was the birthday card Adrian gave to Sam saying ‘I couldn't wish to be married to a lovelier, fun girl in the whole world... maybe we should do it again one day.'
The couple graduated in 2007, Adrian proposed during a holiday in Mauritius and they are now happily married in London.
Sam and Adrian’s sweet love story is among the most popular recent true love stories. Shawn Maxam fell in love with a neurotic Christian who was in complete opposition of his secular humanist views. In this case we could say that opposites attract.
And how can we forget the two lovebirds who met after a relationship of 5 years. Their emotional meeting became a viral hit on the internet. Check out their video here:
