Holi, also known as the Festival of Colours, is celebrated every year all over India to mark the beginning of the season of spring.

In the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, there is a unique tradition in some villages, according to which, men sing provocative songs to gain the attention of women, who then "beat" them with bamboo sticks called "lathis".

Also, a popular beverage called “Bhang” is heavily consumed by the revelers during Holi. It is prepared from the leaves and flower buds of the cannabis plant.
