There are a lot of skills I wish I had, but one thing that's always seemed totally out of my reach is how to blow dry my hair like an adult, instead of looking like I stuck my finger in a socket.

Since plenty of us regularly pay professionals to transform our frizz into sleek shine, I got a pro to spill his secrets to the perfect salon blowout so you can get that sleek look at home, for free.

Salon secrets:

* Start with a "rough dry" - blow dry your hair 80% of the way using just your hands to get rid of excess moisture

* While you're doing this, "over direct" your hair, which is a fancy hair stylist term for drying your hair in the opposite direction of how you wear it - this involves flipping it over and looking pretty 80's, but it locks in natural-looking volume

* Heat up your blow dryer to the max, and make sure each chunk of hair you dry is pulled taut on your hair brush. (He says you can use whatever brush you like the best, so no need to get something fancy.)
