The biggest fear among meat eaters especially in Europe and UK is that they may be eating horsemeat. Indeed, the fear has put many off meat at all!

Those who eat, are forever in doubt of whether they are eating beef or horsemeat!

So how do you know you are eating horsemeat?

Well, you don’t!  Not really!

Generally horse meat is known to be softer, sweeter, leaner, and even milderthan beef.  It is actually said to be a cross between beef and venison. The meat is leaner than beef or pork, so it needs a shorter cooking time to avoid dryness.

But overall, there’s not that much of a discernable difference.

And frankly speaking there shouldn’t be so much of a fuss over it. It’s not dangerous or foul. Eating one kind of meat should not be an ethical problem as well.

The only way to actually distinguish is if you are a meat expert or get the meat tested in a lab.

An average consumer cannot be so discerning.

But the thing to understand is there’s nothing wrong with eating horse meat. It may or may not be your choice but it will not harm either you or your ethics in any way! So apart from feeling cheated off your right to knowing what you are eating, the rest is just a lot of fuss!
