Meet 26-year-old Jen Glantz from New York. Being a bridesmaid to her friends was quickly turning in to an all-too-regular event for Glantz. Instead of feeling depressed about it, Glantz decided to make a go at it professionally.
“This year alone, I’ve been a bridesmaid four times,” she says.
“That’s four different chiffon dresses, four different hen parties filled with tequila shots and guys in thongs twerking way too close to my face; four different pre-wedding pep talks to the bride about how this is the happiest day of her life and marriage, probably, is just like riding a bike: a little shaky at first but then she’ll get the hang of it. So let me be there for you if you don’t have any other girlfriends.”
So yes, if you are short of a bridesmaid, feel free to call her up.
She started out by putting an ad on Craigslist, clients followed soon afterwards.
Why wouldn’t they? She promises to be, “A bridesmaid who will be there to lift up the 18 layers of your dress so you can pee or dance the cha-cha slide with your drunk Uncle. “
The response she is getting is amazing:
But why would anyone want to hire a total stranger as their bridesmaid?
Jen Glantz gives not one but six reasons on her site:
- You want to stay best friends with your best friends after the wedding.
- The closest friends you have live a very expensive plane ride away.
- Uneven numbers up on the altar.
- It’s hard to make new friends.
- Too many bridesmaids in the kitchen.
- I don’t even know where to start.
As for her, she gets a kick out of it and has even written a book about it called All My Friends are Engaged.
In the meantime Glantz says is not ashamed to say she is searching for “a guy who will look at her with the same kind of goo-goo eyes with which she looks at pizza.”
