These days, travel is part and parcel of being a celebrity – but Kermit the Frog's holiday photos will make you green with envy.
He has trekked along the Great Wall of China, marvelled at Icelandic geysers and been to see his own star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
Kermit has even had a city in Texas named after him, but for the Muppet – who has visited 25 countries and clocked up 260,000 air miles since 2006 – it’s all in a day’s work.
The frog’s global tour first hit the headlines in 2010 after years of accompanying Markus and Conny Morgenroth on their holidays and business trips abroad. Since then, he has ticked another 12 destinations off his list, including Florida, Dublin, Bratislava, Beijing and Vienna.
Mr Morgenroth, 35, explained how he had loved Kermit since he was a boy so when his wife bought him the cuddly creature, he decided to combine his travelling with the toy.
‘I had the idea to start making pictures with Kermit about six years ago, and it just took off,’ he said. ‘I loved the idea of taking Kermit to real-life places and putting him next to real-life things we all recognise.
‘Whenever possible, my wife and I take Kermit with us on our travels.
‘There was only one time that we forgot him, and we were not happy about it at all.’
Mr Morgenroth, who works as a software manager, told how Kermit’s first trip was to the Joshua Tree National Park in California in 2006. And from day one, he proved to be as big a hit with travellers as the landmarks themselves – with one person even wanting to kiss his feet.
‘We often meet people who are big fans of Kermit,’ Mr Morgenroth continued. ‘When we were at Kermit’s star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, we couldn’t leave for ages because so many people wanted to take pictures with him as well.’
The couple, from Frankfurt, Germany, plan to visit Argentina and Uruguay in the next year in addition to two trips to the US and three new locations in Europe.
