A little girl named Kamryn Renfro shaved her head to support her best friend, Delaney Clements, who is undergoing chemo therapy. Delaney lost all of her hair and Kamryn did not want her friend to feel alone, so she shaved her head.
Kamryn was excited to go to school and show her peers what she did to support her bff, but was shocked to learn that her act of compassion was not taken well by the school administrators. The Colorado school has a strict dress code policy which does not allow students to shave their heads. She was told not to return to school until her hair grew back.
“I was pretty sad that they didn’t let me go to school,” Kamryn explained, “I was feeling like I was being punished.”
Kamryn and Delaney’s parents, as well as hundreds of other supporters, were outraged to find out that the school administrators suspended Kamryn for supporting her friend. Kamryn’s parents stood up to the administrators. The school board voted 3 to 1 to let Kamryn return to class.
In the end, everyone was happy with the outcome, except that one school board official that voted against Kamryn’s return. So why didn’t he want her to come back to school?
“I believe that we as a country have succumb to making decisions based on emotion as oppose to logic and critical thinking,” explained the descending voter Bill Newcomer.
Wow. All I can say it that these little girls have more heart and courage than that school board official will ever have.
