Novelist Laura Lipmann felt bad when Kim Novak was criticized for her “shocking appearance” at the Oscars this year.

The 81-year-old actress was spotted in public after a long time at the Academy Awards earlier this month. Following the event, she was frequently ridiculed by the press for her plastic surgery procedures.

After going through a lot of cruel remarks and comments Lipmann decided to make a point and subsequently posted a selfie with absolutely no make-up in 'solidarity' with Novak.

"I looked at her photo and thought, 'Well, damned if you do, damned if you don't' … all I could think was, God love you, Kim Novak. We criticize women for ageing. We criticize women for not ageing. We criticize women's bodies. We criticize women for bad plastic surgery," said the 55-year-old author known for her Tess Monaghan series.

Lipmann used the hashtag #itsokkimnovak on Twitter which later prompted hundreds of responses from people posting their self-portraits in their most natural state.
