‘Selfie’ just won Oxford’s word of the year.
While Oxford University's research may say that the word's use increased by 17,000%, it’s still one of the most stupid things to become a ‘thing.’
You have to love the way mainstream describes the word’s evolution as a ‘niche social media tag into a mainstream term for a self-portrait photograph,’ when really it’s more of a disappointing example of how self-obsessed we can be.
Here are just a few examples why Oxford’s glorification of ‘selfie’ is just stupid. I use the word ‘stupid’ because many of those who take these ‘self-portraits’ appear to be on the lower end of the intelligence scale.
