While most young girls might feel a temptation to rebel and dye their hair, or experiment with risqué clothing, the elder of the First Daughters has not put a foot out of place. Becoming a teenager as a resident of the White House cannot be easy. But as she turned 13 today, Malia Obama looked to be taking it in her stride.

In fact it looks as if though she’s taking cue from her mother, Michelle Obama, whose style is immaculate.
Though she is fast becoming as tall as her parents, Malia has not fallen into the trap of dressing like a grown-up too soon, and all her style choices are age appropriate.

Like the First Lady, both Malia and her sister Sasha, ten, have been seen in a lot of J Crew. She is also a fan of Urban Outfitters' sister brand Anthropologie.

She has started to wear make-up too - with her mother's wise counsel to guide her. In an appearance on The View, Mrs Obama revealed: 'We do a lot of talking. Sometimes it's too much. After our...military families tour, I came in, it was 10.30 at night - we were beat, we did four cities in two days, and Malia's like, "Ma, I need to talk to you."
'And it was 10.30 and we talked. And we talked, and we talked. We talked about make-up, actually.'
In fact, it seems the only person struggling with Malia's coming-of-age is the President himself.
He admitted in an interview last year: 'Even though she's 5ft 9in, she's still my baby.
'And she just got braces, which is good, because she looks like a kid and she was getting ... she's starting to look too old for me.'

One occasion in particular, came as a shock, as his wife revealed on The View.
She said: 'He says he's cool, but you know... The first time Malia went out for a party and she was dressed, she had her hair done and she's tall, she had on a pretty dress, you could see him, he was sort of like... gulp. And I was like, "Easy dad."
