Spices are praised at being good for health and are used in all kinds of foods and drinks.  According to Dr Krishnapura Srinivasan, a scientist at the Central Food Technological Research Institute in Mysore, India, when spices are consumed “They act as a stimulus to the digestive system, relieve digestive disorders and some spices are of antiseptic value.” Not only are spices good for health when taken internally, but they are also good when used externally. Below are some spices that are good for skin care and how to use them.

One spice that is good for your skin is Turmeric. It is widely used for the treatment of acne due to its anti-inflammatory properties. And turmeric is also known for being a good natural anti-aging ingredient since it helps fight free radical damage and fights against wrinkles; helps maintain elasticity, while hydrating the skin.

To use Turmeric on your skin you can do a number of things, it just depends on your concern. If you suffer from acne and want some anti-aging benefits one way to apply it is to: take half a teaspoon of turmeric and put in a bowl, then take two teaspoons of buttermilk and mix. Apply to your face with a synthetic makeup brush. Then leave it on for about 20 minutes. Warning: turmeric does stain your skin (but not permanently). To remove the stains use makeup remover, or even better some extra virgin olive oil.

Cayenne pepper is another spice that is good for skin care. You have to be careful with this spice because it will burn, especially if you get it into your eyes. This spice is said to be good for those suffering with acne. You can use it as a spot treatment for pimples. Using it all over your face is not recommended.

To use as a spot treatment use a half teaspoon of Cayenne pepper. Mix it with a couple table spoons of extra virgin olive oil. Then take a Q-tip and dip it into the mix, then apply to the affected spot.

Fennel is a good spice for your skin because it is healing properties and is excellent for sensitive skin. It is known to help treat redness and irritation from too much sun exposure. Because fennel is soothing it is great to use around the eyes. You can purchase something with fennel in it or apply it directly.

You can use fennel on your skin in various ways. One thing you can do with it is create a scrub. Simply take fennel seeds (you can crush them up if you’d like it smaller), sea salt, and either extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil or almond oil. Then apply to your skin and rub it in until you feel its smooth enough.
