A resident of Nashville, Timothy Kurek, in an effort to see the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender or LGBT Community outside of his anti-gay religious views, decided to undertake a unique experiment: he pretended to be a gay for a year.
In a recent interview to MSNBC Kurek disclosed that his religious upbringing taught him that gay people are sinners. But when a friend of his was rejected for being lesbian, he decided to understand what it is like to be a homosexual in America. And hence, he began his life as a gay American.
However, question remains did the experiment change Kurek? Yes. In the same interview he said that the entire experience of spending a year ‘like a gay’ altered his beliefs and faith about such people. He went to the extent of apologizing for his earlier view that being gay was sinful.
Kurek believes that his upcoming book named ‘The Cross in the Closet’ which is based on his experiment will encourage other people to consider their views about gays.
