If you are trying to be health conscious it may come as a shock to you to find that many of the fruits and veggies we think are helping us lead healthier lives are actually doing just the opposite.

A study revealed that 65 percent of produce samples tested positive for pesticide residues, according to the Environmental Working Group. The EWG has come out with a list for 2014 to help shoppers know what fruits and veggies to buy, and which to stay away from.  

The fruits and veggies to stay away from (due to high pesticide residue content) are:

·         Strawberries

·         Grapes

·         Celery

·         Peaches

·         Spinach

·         Sweet bell peppers

·         Nectarines (imported)

·         Cucumbers

·         Cherry tomatoes

·         Snap peas (imported)

·         Potatoes

 

The safest fruits and veggies to buy are:

·         Avocados

·         Sweet corn

·         Pineapples

·         Cabbage

·         Sweet peas (frozen)

·         Onions

·         Asparagus

·         Mangos

·         Papayas

·         Kiwi

·         Eggplant

·         Grapefruit

·         Cantaloupe

·         Cauliflower

·         Sweet potatoes
