This Clip From The Simpson Gives An Insight Into The American Gun Culture

by
This clip from the TV show Simpsons touches a chord on gun control.

Controversial and crude as it may be, The Simpsons have always had a finger on the socio-political pulse of the country.

The clip above is no different. In less than a minute it shows people’s obsession with firearms, but also gives a glimpse of the responsibility factor. This is not the only time though. Another clip shows the crux of the problem:

According to NYU researcher Sripal Bangalore:

"The gun ownership rate [is] a strong and independent predictor of firearm-related death ... There was a significant correlation between guns per head per country and the rate of firearm-related deaths with Japan being on one end of the spectrum and the U.S. being on the other. This argues against the notion of more guns translating into less crime."

Widespread public availability of firearms is not safe and leads to an increase in the number of gun attacks and people being killed by ‘disturbed’ gunmen. When the reasons given are as nonsensical as ‘texting at the movies’ there isn’t much positive that can be said.

The disturbing image above shows gun advocates of Open Carry Texas gathered in a restaurant parking lot carrying guns to protest a meeting of Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense In America (MDA). A spokeswoman for MDA said that the restaurant manager for MDA did not want to call the police for fear of “inciting a riot.”
