SOUND OF DIAL-UP INTERNET
This audio clip would remind you of the horrors of connecting to the internet in 90’s.
Kids today make complaints regarding the speed of the internet or the consistence of the Wi-Fi at a public place. But they have no idea what the 90’s kids have gone through! The combination of screeches, unidentified noises and beeps that we had to bear for 30 seconds at least before connecting to the internet were frustrating and the funny part was that after waiting for the detestable sounds to pass the connection still failed. It was irritating at that time but now with all the technological advancements, it is really missed!
Watching Lion king as a kid and witnessing Mufasa’s death was may be the first ever tragedy for all the kids. It was an unexpected and disturbing death. This unreal animated character became so dear to its viewers that none could stop their tears when Simba came and tried to wake his father up. It can actually give goose bumps still.
Owning a walkman was actually considered cool in the 90’s. In the age of MP4 players, ipods and what not, just imagine carrying a customized cassette player with you all the time that has no memory and all what it offers you is the cassette with a few songs inside it. People actually carried matching walkmans to their clothes and bags and color preferences. This is one thing that is almost obsolete now and the younger generation might not even know about it.
CHUCKY – THE DOLL WAS HORRIFYING
Those who were kids in the 90’s would completely agree that the first most horrifying character was Chucky. Child’s Play series was one of its own kind in which Chuky played the lead role. He being the worst doll ever, was literally able to scare kids horribly. This fictional character had such an impact that for years kids feared this doll but now all of those who feared Chucky could actually laugh about it because this series is one of the most ‘wanna be’ horror series ever created.
RENTED VHS TAPES
Having a VCR, renting VHS tapes, keeping them safe from dust and dirt and then watching movies was something that united the whole family together. Usually the whole family used to get involved in playing the movie. Fathers used to attach the leads to the VCR, brothers were supposed to go and rent the VHS tapes and the ladies were expected to make to best snacks, so that the movie could be enjoyed at its best. Today a simple click is enough for you to watch anything over the internet but the fun with the VHS tapes was extreme.
SUPER NINTENDO AND SEGA
Nintendo and Sega games actually became the criteria of difficulty. Not only kids even parents and elders also got connected to these games and people spent hours and hours playing games like Mario, Contra, Street Fighter, Tetris and many others. When these machines were around nothing else mattered, all you knew was how you can either reach the Princess or what controls could actually destroy your enemy. Different game cartridges made it even more exciting for the game lovers and when they stopped working because of the continuous use, blowing into these cartridges to make them work again was the easiest fix.
Aladdin and Jasmine was the dream couple of everyone. Aladdin being one of the most famous cartoons and it stole the hearts of infinite people around the globe. The impact was so huge that after the movie, its sequels and its episode series was also made. From mugs to the wall carpets, its characters were everywhere. One can actually still recall jumping on the camel to gain an apple in the Aladdin Nintendo game, it still fascinates few people.
Introduction of gel pens revolutionized the art work of kids at the school. Tired and bored of Colorless pens, kids loved the idea of it and spent lots and lots of money in buying these colorful pens. These pens in real took the attention away from the games. Now there is plenty of variety available but in 90’s gel pens became one of the best discoveries for the kids.
It is a 1990 American Christmas family comedy film written and produced by John Hughes and directed by Chris Columbus. This is one of the best movies of the 90’s. Every kid would relate himself to Kevin, who was an eight year old boy, mistakenly left behind in the house when his family flies to Paris. The series of events in this movie are unforgettable and can still make you laugh if you watch it again.
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES
Kids actually did not know what mutant literally means but the whole title song was learned by heart. Ninja turtles were the super heroes of 90’s. For what so ever reasons kids had this strange love for the turtles that ate pizza, opened cans and talked. It’s likely that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sparked a trend of animated cartoons with their magnificent animated series.
These were ten unforgettable things to be remembered from the 90’s and none of them is better than any other. It is actually hard to prioritize what comes first and what comes last.
Memories, lifestyle, things, movies and music, each and everything from 90’s has created an everlasting impression on our minds that cannot be erased or compared by the luxuries that are offered to us by the technology driven society of today.
