We have seen many ugly and scary shoes but this pair is the scariest of them all!
The ‘Scary Beautiful’ shoes were designed by South African student artist, Leanie van der Vyver to critically assess the fashion industry's chase for excellence and perfection in her graduation project.

René van den Berg a Dutch shoemaker fabricated the crazy design, which led Leanie towards a nomination for the esteemed Gerrit Rietveld design prize at her university in Holland.
Leanie, from Cape Town, recently graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam.'I wrote my Thesis about how humans have been playing God with their bodies, constantly searching for the ultimate perfection and I discovered that this perfection has reached a climax in the fashion and beauty industry. Heels cannot get higher any higher,' she said.
'Scary Beautiful challenges current beauty ideals by inflicting an unexpected new beauty standard,' she said.' This work is ambiguous, and I enjoy the mixed feelings it is provoking in people who see them. This was always my intention,' added Leanie.

The shoes are obviously not realistic, but as art they are pretty interesting. We can't help but be reminded of Lady Gaga trying to stable herself in the Alexander McQueen "Armadillo" heels in her "Bad Romance" music video.
