One person was killed and four others injured in a shooting at the Southern Union State Community College in eastern Alabama Wednesday afternoon, the Opelika Police said.
The victims include a 63-year-old woman who was shot dead; a 90-year-old woman who was shot in the neck and back who was airlifted to a hospital in Georgia and a 36-year-old woman who was shot in the arm. A 4-year-old boy was also treated for getting hit with shards of glass.
Police identified the shooter as a relative of the victims and the shooting was likely the result of domestic violence.
“The shooter was outside of the car and fired into the vehicle,” Captain Allan Elkins from the Opelika Police, said. “We have a suspect and we’re searching for him right now.”
Opelika High School, which is across the street from the college, was locked down after the shooting.
