Granny shooting

It was a really long and bizarre day for the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department on Thursday.

A gun-wielding 70-year-old woman barricaded herself in a trailer park in Topanga, Southern California. Interestingly enough, she called the police for assistance but once they arrived, she pulled out a firearm. The altercation escalated to her hitting the police’s crisis negotiation robot with a broom. When that didn’t stop the robot, she shot at it and proceeded to barricade herself in a trailer park, holding authorities at bay for more than 17 hours.

The situation was still “active,” at the time of this writing. According to the authorities, the elderly woman’s motives were unclear.

So far, the officials have fired flash-bang grenades and tear gas, neither of which forced her to abandon her hideout and surrender.

“All efforts to this point have been unsuccessful and the woman remains barricaded at this time,” according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The SWAT team was also brought in.

The damage to the poor robot sent in to communicate with the woman, who seems to appear mentally disturbed, has not been made public so far.

“I was able to open up my kitchen door and hear her, and the things she was saying, you know you knew, she wasn't well,” said a neighbor. “She wanted to kill the police department.”

Sheriff’s officials have called the family members to the scene. They said that they are taking their time and trying their best to resolve the situation without any violence.
