Janet Pfeifer, a 76-year-old woman from a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was severely injured Monday while picking up her food from a McDonald’s drive-thru.
According to WPXI, when a McDonald’s employee was handing Pfeifer her McDonald’s order from the delivery window, she dropped it to the ground.
When attempting to pick it up, Pfeifer had to open her door and lean out of her car.
Her car then accelerated, causing the driver’s side door to strike into the wall of the McDonald’s after which she toppled out of her car upon the impact.
She was then aggressively run over as the car was accelerating. It eventually crashed it into a wall in the parking lot, leaving the injured Pfeifer behind on the ground writhing in pain.
Pfeifer encountered jaw, head and arm injuries which were so severe that she had to be airlifted to a hospital in Pittsburgh. She is said to be in stable condition now.
A worried neighbor told ABC that Pfeifer “is very active for her age” and is a regular bingo player, addressing possible speculations regarding whether or not Pfeifer was still physically fit to be driving.
Luckily, no other people were injured in the incident. McDonald's, however, refused to comment on the accident.
