UPDATE, 3:09 PST: The two injured deputies have been airlifted out. Their condition is unknown. The exact location of Chris Dorner is not known, according to the LAPD. He believed that Dorner may have access to media, and so he was sketchy on specifics. He also asked all media to not provide live shots of SWAT team activities.
"Until this guy's in handcuffs and in custody, none of the people in our department is going to rest."
"Once that area is locked down, we're going to let the San Bernadino SWAT team get in there and do what they do best."
UPDATE: Two deputies have been shot and injured--not killed. They are still in the hot zone but authorities are looking to take them to safety where they can get medical attention. It is not known how severe their injuries are.
As I write, police are engaged in a gun battle with wanted killer and ex-cop Chris Dorner. A reporter caught audio of gun volleys between Dorner and the police, who have him cornered in the Big Bear Area outside of Los Angeles. The broadcast also gave an unconfirmed report that "two officers are down." It was unclear if she meant dead or incapacitated, but Dorner is heavily armed, with as many as 30 weapons, and it is clear that he will only be taken down by force.
Dorner reportedly commited a residential burglary of a nearby cabin and tied up two people, one of whom was able to escape and call the authorities.
We will update this story as it develops.
