The Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard managed to shock (and frankly awe!) a lot of people with her satirical ‘End of the world’ message.

Julia Gillard

Speaking to the public in a televised message via Triple J’s breakfast show, PM Gillard said that it wasn’t the Y2K or the carbon price that did us in, but whatever it was, she was relieved because she, ‘won't have to do Q&A again.’

PM Gillard’s solemn tones in this satirical video have frankly won us over. Who would have thought that under that accident prone exterior lurked a witty Julia Gillard?

The Australian breakfast show Triple J has been celebrating the ‘end of the world’ theme. The belief is based on the Mayan calendar which is based on 400-year periods known as ‘baktuns’ – in which each era is made up of 13 cycles of 400 years – in all 5125 years. According to Mayan experts’ calculations, December 2012 is when the world would end.

Here are some of the quotes from Aussie PM Julia Gillard’s ‘End of the world’ message.

''My dear remaining fellow Australians, the end of the world is coming. It wasn't Y2K, it wasn't even the carbon price.''

''Whether the final blow comes from flesh eating zombies, demonic hell beasts or from the total triumph of K-pop, if you know one thing about me it is this: I will always fight for you to the very end,''

''At least this means I won't have to do Q&A again.''
