Barack Obama hasn’t had a cigarette in years because he is scared of his wife, the First Lady, Michelle Obama. Obama revealed this tidbit while he was having a chat with Mr. Maina Kiai, a United Nations official about his smoking habits, in New York City earlier this week.
Obama didn’t realize his microphone was open while asking Mr. Kiai regarding his smoking habits. The official later asked the President about his own cigarette use, to which Obama replied that he hadn’t had a smoke in six years.
“That's because I'm scared of my wife,” Obama added with a broad smile.

Barack Obama has very publically struggled with his smoking habits. In 2008, Obama didn’t come up with a straight answer when he was asked on NBC’s ‘Meet The Press’ whether he had managed to quit smoking. He was often observed chewing Nicorette gum to stave off nicotine cravings during his first presidential campaign trail, according to media reports.
In February 2011, Michelle Obama told reporters at a White House event that the U.S. President had finally kicked his smoking habit.
"It's been a while and I'm very proud of him,” she said.
