On a typical Chicago night in 1989, Barrack Obama, after persistently asking out his boss, Michelle Robinson, finally got her to agree to go on a first date.
Neither knew that they would get married and become the 44th president and first lady of the United States – or that their first date would be turned into a feature film, almost 26 years later.

But it’s happening: the Obamas are going to let their romantic history hitch a ride on the blast from the past wagon – in Hollywood. Titled Southside With You and based on a screenplay by director Richard Tanne, the plot focuses on Michelle and Barack’s first date.
According to sources, the movie is going to have a cinéma-vérité vibe, or rather a form of documentary filmmaking, like Before Sunset.
Their first night out was first revealed to Oprah in 2007. Obama recalled, “I remember being struck by how tall and beautiful she was. She, I have since learned, was pleasantly surprised to see that my nose and ears weren't quite as enormous as they looked in the photo I'd submitted for the firm directory.”

“I asked her out. She refused. I kept asking. She kept refusing. ‘I’m your adviser,’ she said. ‘It's not appropriate.’ Finally, I offered to quit my job, and at last she relented. On our first date, I treated her to the finest ice cream Baskin-Robbins had to offer, our dinner table doubling as the curb. I kissed her, and it tasted like chocolate.”
Later on the couple spoke again about their first meal together, where he impressed her by showing his “cultural side” at the Chicago Art Institute, followed by romantic walk.
Tika Sumpter, who had a recurring role in the TV series Gossip Girl, will play Michelle. So far, no other cast members have been revealed.
We have no clue what kind of plot line can come about from a first date between the future president and first Lady, but we do know that both the Michelle and Obama were pretty awesome, even before they made it to the White House.
