Unlawful government spy operations aren't new. The most active spy in U.S. history, at least when it comes to surveilling other Americans, may have been FBI director J. Edgar Hoover. While Hoover did not have access to the data that the modern National Security Administration (NSA) does, he used what methods he had to spy on politicians, sports figures, celebrities and countless leftist activists.

And a group of concerned, ordinary citizens decided to do something incredibly brave, and change American history.
