Beg To Differ Ms. Khar, Pakistanis Do Not Hate America Because Of Drones

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Hanna Rabbani Khar, the top cause of anti-Americanism in Pakistan, is the U.S. tactic of drone attacks. Well, we beg to differ here.

Ms. Khar

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Hanna Rabbani Khar, the top cause of anti-Americanism in Pakistan, is the U.S. tactic of drone attacks. Well, we beg to differ here.

Most of the Pakistanis didn’t even know the extent of drone attacks and what they were doing to their land and people till Wiki Leaks took it upon themselves to leak the information.

For years the government of Pakistan had underplayed the war against terrorism in the Waziristan and FATA region of the country. The media has been waylaid and thrown bones to go on wild goose chases, which it obligingly did, until it was no longer able to do so without denying in-your-face-impossible-to-be-overlooked facts without looking like fools as well as traitors.

No Ms. Khar, for as long as at least this generation looks back, Pakistanis have hated America for being their enemy and supporting their enemies (namely Israel and India) and doing everything in her power to weaken and destroy the fort of Islam: Pakistan.

People hate America because they associate it with Israel and Jews and they hate both with a vengeance that isn’t even rightfully theirs. It has been planted in their minds by self serving politicians who have no right to be in politics and self righteous religious  leaders who have no place to be guiding people in matters of religion.

Yes, there have been drone attacks and they’ve killed thousands of people, many, if not most of them innocent. According to the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, an independent organization based at City University in London “…from June 2004 through mid-September 2012, available data indicate that drone strikes killed 2,562 - 3,325 people in Pakistan, of whom 474 - 881 were civilians, including 176 children. TBIJ reports that these strikes also injured additional 1,228 - 1,362 individuals."

According to WikiLeaks, Pakistan's government publicly condemns these attacks, but has secretly shared intelligence with the United States and also allegedly allowed the drones to operate from Shamsi Airfield in Pakistan.

Yes, the people of Pakistan are against the drone strikes but that is not the sole reason they hate America. The people of Pakistan hence, for one reason or another have made a hobby out of hating USA.

USA hasn’t helped her cause much, by continuing the atrocities in the name of war on terror, showing disdain for all the apparent collaboration Pakistan is giving in the name of fighting down al-Qaeda and terrorism and let’s just say it, for being there as the dumping ground for hate and bad-blood, secure in the knowledge that it has thick enough skin for it not to matter. Well, when it piles up enough, it does matter.

But, no we cannot agree with you Ms. Khar. Pakistanis do not just hate America for sending in drones and killing innocent people. Because for one, the knowledge is fairly new for them and for people stuck in a rut of failing in making the ends meet, day in and day out, apathy does become a blanket of survival for them.

People do hate America, but more out of decades of habit than anything else.  And while we’re at it, the people who do have information and awareness enough to hate, hate the government and the military brass more for allowing the drone attacks to take place and playing the martyrs at the same time.
