In yet another display of his ignorance about history, Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson said Adolf Hitler’s genocide of Jews “would have been greatly diminished” if German citizens had not been disarmed by the Nazis. The comment came during an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.
“I think the likelihood of Hitler being able to accomplish his goals would have been greatly diminished if the people had been armed,” Carson said. “I’m telling you there is a reason these dictatorial people take guns first.”
“Because they had a powerful military machine, as you know, the Nazis,” Blitzer pressed to which his guest replied: “I understand that. I’m telling you that there is a reason that these dictatorial people take the guns first.”
This isn’t the first time this year Carson has provided proof of how incompetent he is to run the country. Just on Tuesday he prompted outrage when he remarked on the mass shooting at an Oregon campus that happened last week.
“I would not just stand there and let him shoot me,” Carson, who has been surging in recent polls and running second to Donald Trump, said on Fox News. “I would say: ‘Hey, guys, everybody attack him! He may shoot me, but he can’t get us all.’ ”
While it really doesn’t matter if Carson wins the election or not, one thing is for sure: He has successfully destroyed the stereotype about neurosurgeons being intelligent and smart.
