"Bin Laden's Chef Sentenced To 14 Years In Jail By Guantanamo Tribunal "

"Osama Bin Laden's former cook and driver has been sentenced to 14 years in prison by a Guantanamo Bay tribunal. Sudanese-born Ibrahim al-Qosi, 50, had admitted conspiracy and providing support for terrorism. He also confessed to working as Bin Laden's bodyguard and helping him avoid capture by American troops. However, Qosi could serve less time thanks to a secret plea deal - details of which are not due to be made public for weeks. The Pentagon will review the sentence. Qosi, 50, was captured by U.S. forces in Afghanistan in 2001 while fleeing an Al-Qaeda camp in the Tora Bora mountains. He confessed to running a kitchen in Bin Laden's hide-out and confessed he knew he was working for a terrorist organisation. Qosi is only the fourth detainee in the Cuba detention camp to be convicted - and the first since President Barack Obama - whose plans to close Guantanamo have been blocked by Congress - took office in 2009. The centre has held more than 800 alleged militants of whom about 180 remain in custody. Critics of the case said its handling dashed hopes that the offshore tribunal system would be more transparent under President Obama. Andrea Prasow, a lawyer observing the hearings for Human Rights Watch, said: 'To find out that the first conviction under the Obama administration is accompanied by a secret plea agreement, coupled with a dummy sentence, it's really troubling. 'I think this proceeding was a farce.' Judge Nancy Paul, an Air Force lieutenant colonel, said officials would have 60 days to determine where Qosi will be held. She told jurors they could sentence Qosi to between 12 and 15 years in prison - reportedly well above the terms of the plea bargain. She said the detainee would not receive credit for the eight years and seven months he already has spent in confinement. As part of the plea agreement, the detainee signed a statement declaring he followed Bin Laden after the Al-Qaeda leader's expulsion from Sudan in 1996 and continued working for him in Af
