In the video, an inebriated Smith, along with his friend, Irish gymnast Luke Carson, can be seen mocking Muslims’ traditional style of prayer.

A video has emerged purportedly showing British Olympian Louis Smith mocking Islam, along with his friend, Irish gymnast Luke Carson.

Cellphone footage, first obtained by The Sun, shows Smith laughing while consuming alcohol. Meanwhile, Carson pretends to offer “Salah,” the traditional act of Muslim worship observed five times a day. He also yells “Allahu Akbar” (God is the greatest) kneeling on a rug.

The British tabloid newspaper reported Smith, a double Olympic silver medalist,  filmed the video during gymnast Daniel Keatings’ wedding party at Kettering Park Hotel, Northamptonshire.

Following a barrage of criticism on social media over the video, Carson replied by saying, “It was a three-minute video of us just fooling around.”

He retired last year from competitive gymnastics due to a long battle against injury.
