Update: A New York Daily News cover accurately eviscerated Cruz and his disastrous campaign stop.
Ted Cruz’s New York Republican primary campaign is off to a horrible start.
The GOP presidential hopeful, fresh off a big primary win in Wisconsin, visited Bronx on Wednesday to smooth out the damage caused by his callous “New York values” insult and beg for votes ahead of April 19’s Republican primary.
Unsurprisingly, it did not go well.
The Texas senator received a tepid welcome upon his arrival at the campaign event and things just continued to get worse as more and more angry residents showed up to decry the candidate’s stance on immigration and his crude remarks about the city.
“Just because he has a Hispanic last name does not mean he's Hispanic,” said protester Edna Ferrer, who was chastising Cruz supporters outside the campaign event. “His mind is white.”
Cruz had insulted the Big Apple during a debate in January where he derided “New York values" in an attack on his Manhattan-born rival Donald Trump.
“Ted Cruz has no business being in the Bronx," another demonstrator yelled. “We live in one of the poorest congressional districts in the country, and to receive this right-wing bigot is an insult to the whole community.”
In fact, the situation got so out of hand that Cruz campaign had to take a page out of Donald Trump’s handbook and remove a protester from the event.

“You’re running on an anti-immigrant platform, and you’re speaking in the Bronx,” the demonstrator said to loud cheers and chants. “You should not be here.”
Meanwhile, the White House hopeful appeared to stand by his comments and tried to make the case that some New Yorkers share his conservative positions.
“The people of New York know exactly what those values are,” Cruz said at Sabrosura 2, a Chinese-Dominican restaurant, where journalists clearly outnumbered his supporters. “They’re the values of liberal Democratic politicians. If you want to know what liberal democratic values are, follow Donald Trump’s checkbook.”
In another incident, students at Lighthouse College Preparatory Academy convinced their principal to cancel event with the presidential candidate by threatening to stage a walkout.
Trump, on the other hand, used this opportunity to cash into his opponent’s now in-famous remarks by inciting the crowd to boo the senator during a rally in his home state.
“Remember when he started lecturing me on New York values like we're no good?” Trump asked his supporters. “I looked at him and started talking about our incredible police, our incredible firefighters,” he said, referring to New Yorkers' bravery after the 9/11 attacks.
“We all know people who died and I've got this guy standing over there looking at me and talking to me about New York values with scorn on his face, with hatred of New York,” he continued to the loud chants of “lyin’ Ted,” the business mogul’s favorite nickname for Cruz. “So folks, I think you can forget about him.”
