A young girl died and several people were injured when a building collapsed around noon today in downtown Morrilton, authorities said.
Emergency personnel are searching the debris for other possible victims, Conway County Sheriff Mike Smith said.
A dispatcher at the Morrilton Police Department said some of the injured were taken to nearby hospitals.
Authorities did not immediately say what caused the building to collapse.
In 2009, a fire destroyed three commercial buildings and damaged six more in downtown Morrilton, including a four-story antiques store that was nearly 100 years old.
Last year, Steven Rogers of Conway County, who was drunk and upset at his ex-girlfriend, pleaded guilty to arson in connection with the fires. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
