Demonstrations outside a Phoenix, Arizona, high school where President Obama made an appearance on Tuesday turned ugly when some protestors resorted to racist attacks against the country’s leader.

“Bye bye black sheep” and "Impeach the Half-White Muslim!" were some of the racist chants and slogans directed at the President, according to a report in the Arizona Republic.

“He’s 47 percent Negro,” one protestor shouted.

While the President is no stranger to public dissent, racist sentiments like these reflect a darker side of many Americans (no pun intended) who have failed to evolve with respect to racial equality. Clearly there are some in Phoenix who have yet to accept the notion of a black president, despite it being Obama’s second term.

Hundreds of people including many supporters who were there ‘to spread the love’ gathered outside Desert Vista High School as Obama introduced his plan to revamp the nation's mortgage finance system. Protestors expressed their dissatisfaction with a range of issues including immigration reform, home ownership, the Keystone XL oil pipeline, climate change and Obamacare.

What race and religion have to do with any of these issues is anybody’s guess.
