It can feel nearly impossible for domestic violence victims to extract themselves from abusive situations. Chief among the obstacles is the sheer cost of getting out and getting out fast.
A California-based moving company just offered domestic abuse victims the deal of a lifetime and one that could literally save lives – moving out of their homes free of cost.
Meathead Movers, which was founded in 1997, has come together with seven domestic violence prevention organizations including Good Shepherd Shelter to help victims start off a new life, and is making the world a better place, one family at a time.
Speaking to BuzzFeed, CEO of Meathead Movers Aaron Steed said the goal is “to help victims of domestic violence with a fresh start in life.” He went on to add: “The single most meaningful thing on my desk is a drawing from a child whose family we helped.”
A spokesperson for the service told LA Weekly, “Meathead Movers will work directly with the nonprofit to identify the abusive situations and provide moving services at no cost. Not only do these services help the victims of domestic abuse but they directly impact Meathead employees – consisting of predominantly young men who believe that real men don’t hit women; real men help those in need.”
During his interview with BuzzFeed, Steed also added: “We know how hard it is to pack up someone’s life and move it to a new location, but it’s unimaginable to think about a woman and her children trying to pack up all their belongings and feel before the abusers returns home. When we realized we had the resources to help provide a fresh start for these victims, we knew Good Shepherd was the perfect organization to connect us with those who need our services most.”
The company provides several moves each month and hopes to cater to many more families experiencing domestic abuse, in an effort to save people from this horrible violence.
