A carjacker called the police on himself after discovering that the car he had stolen had a baby in the backseat.

According to a report, the baby girl’s father Patrick Julbe parked his SUV while it was still running to buy a cell phone from a shop. Jennifer Rodriguez, Julbe’s girlfriend, and their 8-month-old baby Ayanna were in the jeep when he left.

After a while Rodriguez got out of the car to take a closer look at the cell phone case her boyfriend was trying to show through the store’s window. And that is when the thief struck and took away the SUV.

After about forty minutes, the New York City Police Department received a call from an unidentified, Spanish- speaking man, presumably the car thief, calling from a pay phone. The thief said, “There is a baby in the backseat of the car.” He then directed the police to the location of the jeep and baby.

The surveillance footage of the incident has also been released. The suspect is described as a heavy-set man, wearing a black and white striped shirt and jeans with a baseball cap.

It is a really unusual thing that has happened to Julbe and his family since muggers and thieves mostly don’t care about sentiments. The parents guess that he might have had a change of heart after discovering Ayanna in the backseat.
