Remember Carly Fiorina? The Republican candidate who aced the first GOP presidential debate in August? Where did she disappear all of a sudden?
Apparently, the former Hewlett-Packard’s chief executive’s support has collapsed in the last month, according to the latest CNN/ORC poll.
The survey found Donald Trump and Ben Carson leading the GOP with the support of 27 percent and 22 percent, respectively, of registered Republicans. Fiorina’s numbers plunged to just 4 percent from 15 percent in September.
There could be various reasons – she is a politician after all, but what’s appalling is the fact that Trump and Carson are going up – despite their racist and xenophobic rhetoric.
So what exactly happened to Fiorina?
As per CNN analysis, it was her unnecessary focus on Planned Parenthood and some outrageous claims about videos that were shot and edited by an anti-abortion group.
“Instead of using her moment in the spotlight to discuss a range of issues and further introduce herself to voters, she instead trained her focus on Planned Parenthood,” wrote politics reporter Sarah Murray.
The Atlantic thinks – apart from the fact that she is a woman – it’s her lack of the ability to attract attention in the media, quite unlike her two rivals who unabashedly generate controversies even if it makes them look like buffoons. Everyone knows by now: Trump and Carson couldn’t care less.
But here’s a more important question: Is Fiorina really worse than Trump and Carson?
Again, this doesn’t justify her lying to the nation but she certainly deserves to be ahead of her two opponents who are who have made a mockery of the election and the U.S. Constitution.
