America, there is a question before you: if someone works forty hours a week, should they need government assistance to meet their basic expenses? If you think not, we should raise the minimum wage. If you think so, why don’t we just go all out, and move to a universal living wage?
Or perhaps you have another solution, but the fact of the matter is that most of the wealth generated in this country is going to the rich, and the poor are left to fight over the scraps. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) expressed his feelings about this in a recent Senate hearing.
From at least one of the speakers, you can see that the Walmart corporate mentality has taken over. She notes that with so many job applicants per available job, why should we raise the minimum wage? The supply and demand argument works well for CEOs who just want labor at the cheapest price they can get it, but some of us see this as a humanitarian issue.
