These Long Lost Brothers And Sister Were Reunited By A Tinder Match

Swiping right on the hook up app will never be the same for this brother and sister.

If you think your family get-togethers are uncomfortable, at least you're not flirting with disaster. This Dutch family takes the cake when it comes to awkward reunions – especially since the said awkwardness is courtesy of a coincidental Tinder match.

Josephine Egberts was separated from her older brother Erik de Vries in 1999 after their parents' divorce. The father took Erik and his twin to live with him in Belgium while Josephine stayed with her mother in the Netherlands. The siblings soon lost touch with each other and didn’t reconnect until they both thought the other was attractive on Tinder, and decided to swipe right.

“The first time I swiped her profile I had absolutely no idea,” Erik told Mic. “To be honest, it hasn't been on my mind in the past few years after Maarten, my brother, and I finished a failed search for Josephine a few years ago.”

He probably assumed the girl to be another pretty stranger, which prompted them to start talking.

“In our first conversation I was actually flirting with her so the conversation was very superficial,” he added.

However, once they started sharing some personal details with each other, Erik developed a nagging suspicion that she was his real sister. Fearing the worst, he backed off for a few days, but then curiosity got the better of him and he asked her to divulge some stories about her past.

The matching information soon confirmed his doubts and after sharing his discovery with the 22-year-old, the two decided to meet in a cafe in Tilburg.

“When I saw him, it was suddenly very clear,” explained Josephine. “It was so special to see my own blood brother again after 16 years.”

Erik’s twin Maarten is also quite happy with this bizarre family reunion.

“Erik and I obviously knew for years that we had a little sister. You obviously don’t think about her every day, but a few years ago we did undertake a vain quest to find her,” said Maarten. “It’s too crazy for words that you come into contact with each other again like this, but that also makes it very special. I am very happy that I can now still get to know my sister.”

The siblings are rather happy for swiping right on each other and plan to meet on regular basis from now on.
