Death Row Inmate On Hunger Strike Over Lack Of Kosher Food

He's awaiting execution for the murder of two girls and their mother in Connecticut

The family pictured above was beaten and their home set on fire by two evil home invasion robbers.  The daughters and their mom were murdered.

Steven Hayes was convicted in the home invasion and murder of Jennifer Hawke-Petit, Michaela, 11 and Hayley, 17. The men burst into the family’s home to rob them but eventually tied up their victims and set the home in a Hartford suburb ablaze.

The 51-year-old inmate entered prison July 23, 2007 weighing 170 pounds and now claims that he's lost more than 50 pounds since he started a hunger strike in August.

He's in a religion-related standoff and writes that the Connecticut Department of Corrections is denying him certified kosher food.  The converted orthodox Jew turned in a handwritten lawsuit amended last week. Hayes claims he hasn’t eaten nonkosher food since Aug. 24, when he first filed suit, and has dropped below 120 pounds. He is offered kosher food but claims it's contaminated.

Hayes was placed on suicide watch after fasting during Yom Kippur and attempted suicide in March. He previously planned to kill himself by eating oysters, which he is allergic to.

Do they serve oysters in prison?!?
