The Dennis Rodman-North Korea love affair took an ugly turn this week when the former basketball player lashed out at a reporter for questions over the American detainee in North Korea.

Prisoner Kenneth Bae’s sister called Rodman’s actions “outrageous” and Senator John McCain called the retired sportsman an “idiot.”

CNN’s Chris Cuomo asked Rodman on Tuesday if he was going to discuss Bae’s release with his “buddy” and the North Korean “tyrant” Kim Jong Un.

Subsequently, Rodman lost his cool and started hurling profanities towards Cuomo. He even suggested that American prisoner might have done something wrong that resulted in his detention – which is weird considering the fact that he once asked Kim to release Bae on Twitter last year.

Watch the tirade in the video below:

After the interview was aired, CNN invited Terri Chung, Bae’s siste,r and asked for her reaction to Rodman’s responses.

Chung said that she was simply shocked by the whole episode.

“You know he was in a position to do some good and to help advocate for Kenneth. He refused to do so but then instead he has chosen to hurl these outrages accusations against Kenneth. He clearly doesn’t know anything about Kenneth, about his case and so we were appalled by that,” she said. (Watch video below)

CNN also asked Senator John McCain for his views on the North Korean “basketball diplomat.”

“I think he's an idiot," McCain laughed. "I think he's very - a person - of not great intellect, who doesn't understand that he really does provide propaganda for this very brutal, ruthless young man." (For more, watch the video below)

This isn’t the first time Rodman went off on reporters. Last year in September, after a five-day meeting with Kim in North Korea, Rodman shot down questions regarding Bae’s release by saying they should address their queries to U.S. President and Secretary of State who he thought were “a**holes.”

Maybe Rodman needs to stick to basketball instead of basketball diplomacy.
