Apart from Michelle Obama and Julian Castro, another political personality’s speech that made the first day of the Democratic National Convention worth remembering was delivered by the governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick.

In his fired up speech he urged voters to grow a backbone in an effort to reelect President Barack Obama. From the second he took the stage, Patrick’s speech packed a punch that energized the crowd and drew loud applause.

“Are you fired up? Are you ready to go? I hope so,” said Patrick. Like all other speakers of the day Deval did not forget to attack Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney and his time as the governor of Massachusetts. However, his best line of the day was:

“Mitt Romney talks a lot about all the things he’s fixed. I can tell you that Massachusetts wasn’t one of them. He’s a fine fellow and a great salesman, but as governor he was more interested in having the job than doing it.”
