The measles outbreak in Disney that began a few days ago is only going to get worse. If you are unvaccinated, health officials are warning you to stay away.
Measles hasn't been a concern in a long time, considering most people are vaccinated. However, 90% of people who are unvaccinated against the virus will get it, so don't take any chances.
Measles is extremely contagious because it lingers on in the air even after a sick person has left. There's also a 21 day incubation period, which means that measles can be spreading even if the infected person has no idea they have the disease.
In a place like Disney World where people are visiting from all of the world, the virus has spread like crazy. So far, there have been 70 cases reported in 6 different states as well as Mexico, and health officials feel that it is only going to get worse. With visitors from all over who aren't required to be vaccinated when visiting the U.S, this outbreak can spread to many other countries.
A person infected with measles also can spread it to well over 10 people. It is more contagious than the flu, polio and smallpox. That's why officials are tracking those who have been in contact with an infected person in order to isolate the cases as much as possible.
Measles can be deadly, either from the pneumonia or encephalitis that comes with the virus.
So again, DO NOT come to Disney if you are unvaccinated. The likelihood of getting and spreading the disease right now is extremely high, which can make your trip to 'the happiest place in the world' not so pleasant.
