In fact, they are one of the most loyal companions anyone can ask for, which is why this incident left us baffled as to how low someone can treat such an adorable creature.
A male crossbreed Shar Pei was abandoned outside a train station in Scotland, leashed to a railing with a suitcase full of his belongings. The dog’s pillow, his toys, a food bowl and some food made up the contents of the suitcase.
However, the dog was micro-chipped and the police were able to find out dog’s name, Kai. They also managed to track down its previous owner.
"We contacted the owner registered to the microchip, who stated they had sold Kai on Gumtree in 2013. Unfortunately they could not tell us the address of the person who bought him,” said case inspector Stewart Taylor.
He further said that the case highlights the potential consequences of selling an animal online as it often leads to the impulse buying of pets that people know very little about.
"Regardless of the fact Kai was left with his belongings, this was still a cruel incident and we are keen to identify the person responsible. If anyone can help we would ask them to get in touch as soon as possible,” he added.
Scotland’s Animal Welfare Society says that the forlorn animal was found a few days ago.
Kai is said to be around 2 to 3 years old, and is currently being looked after by the shelter until they find a permanent and suitable home for him.
Abandoning an animal is considered an offense under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006.
