A DOG owner collapsed and died after his dog was hit by a car in Beverley.
The 73-year-old man collapsed after his dog ran into the path of a car in York Road, Beverley Westwood, shortly after 11am yesterday.
One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said the man was pleading for a vet to be called as his dog lay dying in the road.
The resident said: “His Airedale terrier dog, which was on a lead, ran across the road after another dog.
“The dog pulled the man over and the dog was hit by a white van.
“I rushed out to the man to help him up. He wanted a vet so I went to get one.”
Shortly after his dog died, its owner began complaining of chest pains.
He was rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary but died before reaching the hospital.
Edward Husband, 21, who lives along York Road, said: “I heard the impact. There were a lot of police cars and dog walkers rushed to help.”
Police closed the road at the Killingwoldgraves roundabout onto York Road for several hours.
