DOJ Touts Latest Drug Bust ‘Project Deliverance’

Federal authorities arrested 429 individuals in 16 states on Wednesday as part of “Project Deliverance,” an operation to combat the transportation infrastructure of Mexican drug trafficking organizations in the U.S..More than 3,000 agents were involved in the operation on Wednesday, during which the government seized $5.8 million, 2,951 pounds of marijuana, 112 kilograms of cocaine, 17 pounds of methamphetamine, 141 weapons and 85 vehicles, according to the Justice Department.The latest sweep brings the total number of arrests for the operation to 2,200 individuals, said the Justice Department. It comes just a few weeks after Mexico President Felipe Calderon visited the United States.
