A battle between pro-Russian fighters in Urkraine and government forces cut a deadly path through Donetsk Monday, leaving at least 40 people dead.
Images from the city under siege show the human toll, with bodies laying in the street and in morgues, as well as burned out buildings and fighters patrolling streets. The fighting continued into Tuesday, closing Donetsk International Airport, according to CNN. Control of the airport itself seemed to volley between the separatists and government forces.
The continuing violence comes as Ukraine's newly elected president, Petro Poroshenko, vowed to end the conflict with Russia.
Photos from Donetsk starkly show the extreme violence there. Warning: Some photos are very graphic.
