Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina sure has a way with words. The swift politician may have a knack for sounding eloquent compared to the rest of the clown car Republican presidential candidates, but make no mistake -- Fiorina is just as treacherous as the rest of them.
The whole mess began during the second Republican presidential debate when liar-liar-pants-on-Fiorina boldly claimed that a Planned Parenthood employee left an aborted fetus on a table to die so they could harvest its brains.
“As regards Planned Parenthood, anyone who has watched this videotape, I dare Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama to watch these tapes, watch a fully formed fetus on the table, it’s heart beating, its legs kicking while someone says we have to keep it alive to harvest its brain,” Fiorina said.
But what she said she saw does not in fact exist.
According to Vox’s Sarah Kliff, who actually watched the tapes, there is no such vividly gruesome scene.
As ThinkProgress further details the footage Fiorina mentions is an interview with a former procurement tissue technician describing an experience where she saw a fetus with its heart still beating, yet the footage shown with her retelling is not actually what the technician witnessed.
“…the footage used alongside her commentary was stock footage of a fetus with its legs moving, not actual footage of what she witnessed, leading critics to point out that Fiorina mischaracterized the footage that was being shown. The supervisor the woman mentions in the tape also did not say the fetus was kept alive to harvest its brain.”
Despite being proven wrong, Fiorina is sticking to her bald-faced lies.
On Meet The Press last week, she carelessly defended her lie with more lies:
Chuck, Chuck, Chuck, Chuck, Chuck. Do you think this is not happening? Does Hillary Clinton think this is not happening? So sad that you missed the opportunity to ask Mrs. Clinton why she said, ‘Late-term abortions were only performed for medical purposes.’ That is patently false. This is happening in America today. And taxpayers are paying for it. That is a fact. It is a reality. And no one can run away from it.
No, taxpayers are not paying for it, given that federal funding can't be used except in cases of rape or medical necessity.
And secondly, Fiorina’s statement on late term abortions is a more subtle, discreet lie. Fiorina makes the statement assuming most people are generally appalled by late-term abortions, yet she is wrong there given individuals are more supportive of late-term abortions when they understand why women are seeking them at this stage. Yet Fiorina insensitively dismisses the truth as a sick trick. ignorantly assuming a woman facing severe complications is just faking it.
But lying about Planned Parenthood isn’t the only fabrication Fiorina has made. The Republican candidate has a long history of not telling the truth.
In the workplace...
Fiorina has some rather grand exaggerations about her business career. On reaching the top of Hewllet-Packard’s food chain, she implied that she rose from the bottom of the fish tank to eating lunch with the sharks when she actually just climbed the ladder through the company’s management trainee program. And while she sells herself as a successful CEO, she actually ran the company into the ground so hard she got herself fired in 2005.
HP employees have come out saying she “embellished” the company’s “future products, strategy and even history.” Fiorina went as far as adding an imaginary visit from Walt Disney to the story of Disney Studios being a client.
Yet Fiorina refuses to give into reality instead listing off her enormous achievements at HP that just aren’t true.
On Hillary Clinton…
Fiorina impressed viewers with her sophisticated debate skills in the second GOP debate, yet her lies seemingly went amiss during her smooth performance. Fiorina didn’t just harmfully exaggerate Planned Parenthood, but lashed out at her other liberal enemies as well, taking jabs at Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
“She's going to have to defend that track record: of lying about BENGHAZI, of lying about her emails, of lying about her servers, she does not have a track record of accomplishment,” Fiorina said during the debate.
Yet her attack on Clinton failed for its notable falsehoods. Crooks and Liars decoded her lies, finding the Obama administration and Clinton were exonerated of wrongdoing for the Benghazi incident with countless investigations. The lies about Clinton's emails and servers are inaccurate as well given she was exonerated by the Department of Justice. The department notes she had full authority to delete her emails and did not withhold information.
Yet the truth doesn’t stop Fiorina from lying about it.
On foreign policy…
In both debates Fiorina gave clean, crisp responses on foreign policy and commentators immediately dubbed her the victor. Yet despite sounding like she knew what she was talking about, she actually didn’t.
In the first debate, Fiorina said she would rip up the Iran deal the moment she becomes president adding that these actions will convey that “America is back in leadership business.” Yet what she and other Republican presidential candidates refuse to acknowledge is that outright rejection of the agreement will demolish American leadership credentials abroad as global leaders have warned.
In the second debate, Fiorina offered this suggestion in how to get the Russians out of Syria:
“What I would do, immediately, is begin rebuilding the Sixth Fleet, I would begin rebuilding the missile defense program in Poland, I would conduct regular, aggressive military exercises in the Baltic states. I’d probably send a few thousand more troops into Germany. Vladimir Putin would get the message. By the way, the reason it is so critically important that every one of us know General Suleimani’s name is because Russia is in Syria right now, because the head of the Quds force traveled to Russia and talked Vladimir Putin into aligning themselves with Iran and Syria to prop up Bashar al- Assad.”
Yet her response is without a doubt flawed as Vox pointed out, that the Sixth Fleet is already big enough so rebuilding it won’t do much to intimidate Putin, the U.S. is already conducting military exercises in the Baltic states and the U.S. already has 40,000 troops stationed in Germany so sending a few thousand more seems unnecessarily redundant.
Fiorina is professional liar trained in the art of graceful deception. She keeps punching out nonsensical lies that naively get eaten up without a blink of an eye. She’s candidly smooth, but with a closer whiff, you can smell something is burning — Fiorina’s pantsuit.
