Chilling Drone Footage Brings Gaza Destruction To Life

It’s one thing to hear of devastation and destruction; it’s entirely different to see the impact of it.

This footage of Gaza taken from a drone shows the devastating destruction the 50 days of war between Israel and Hamas caused. The fighting killed more than 2,100 Palestinians, 64 Israeli soldiers and five Israeli civilians. 

According to Mohammed Shtayyeh, a Palestinian economist, "The attack on Gaza this time had no precedent. Gaza has been hit with a catastrophe and it needs immediate help because many things can't wait long.”

Israeli air strikes during “Operation Protective Edge” claimed the lives of over 2,000 people, mainly women and children, and destroyed more than 17,000 homes that left 106,000 Gazans displaced.

The UN Agency for Refugees revealed in a report that more than 60,000 people of Gaza were in improvised refugee camps because they had nowhere else to go after their homes, hospitals, schools, mosques and even their power generation plants were destroyed by Israeli air strikes.

Before the July offensive by Israel, an estimated 10,000 Palestinians had fled Gaza in 2014 and the numbers have increased since.

The reconstruction of war-torn Gaza might take as long as 20 years.
