Drunk dad lets his nine-year-old daughter drive in video below
Shawn Weimer, 39, of Michigan.
Shawn Weimer, 39, of Brownstown Township in Michigan, was arrested on October 8 on charges of felony second-degree child abuse and misdemeanor fourth-degree child abuse after the father had his daughter, 9, drive. He was also charged with being a habitual offender.
The video below shows surveillance footage of the two pulling up at a Citgo gas station, with the nine-year-old girl driving and the dad, who appeared intoxicated, riding in the front passenger’s seat.
Brownstown Township police said they received a call about 2:46 a.m. that night from someone who had seen the young girl get into the driver's seat. The witness followed the van until it was pulled over by an officer.
"She was doing fine," Detective Lt. Robert Grant said. "And, in fact, as heinous as this is, the little girl looks at the police officer and says, 'What did you stop me for? I was driving good.' Incredible. Obviously, the officer told her she was too young to drive."
Weimer, who refused a breathalyzer test, has previous convictions for receiving and concealing stolen property, unarmed robbery, felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearm, and was also convicted of operating while impaired by liquor in an October 2007 crash in Wyandotte, Michigan.
The drunk dad told officers he was teaching his daughter to drive. "He was argumentative with us, that it was his right to teach his daughter how to drive," Grant said. The girl said he had been drinking whiskey all night.
