Three fourth-graders from Elba Central School in Elba, New York, reportedly plotted to kill their teacher with an excess of hand sanitizer. But their plan was foiled when parents, the school board and later, the police found out about it.
What a strange world it is when 9-year-old girls are mentioned in the same sentence with "attempted murder" – but apparently it’s happened before.
And history repeated itself at this upscale school in New York, unfortunately. Apparently these little girls strongly disliked their teacher and that inspired their plot. According to reports, one of the students stated that her teacher “yells at us and that the class has problems with her.”
How did it come to this? In December, before their winter break, the three students came up with using hand sanitizer against the teacher, knowing she is extremely allergic to anti-bacterial products.
The girls reportedly planned to tell other students in the class to bring products into the classroom, hoping it would give the teacher a major allergy reaction.
Police got involved when a board member heard of the plan from her son. She confirmed it with other parents and then proceeded to inform the authorities.
According to the Genesee County Sheriff's Department, "the suspects made comments to other students that they were going to kill [the teacher] by putting antibacterial products around the classroom."
But the students contradicted themselves when they met with school officials and later with the police. The authorities were brought in because of the potential threat, but after clarifying that it was no longer a viable threat with no clear motive, they left the matter for the school to handle.
Elba Central School, under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, has stated that it cannot make any comments on the matter – even what kind of disciplinary action has been followed – but officials said that this has shocked the community.
Shocking indeed. Hopefully these kids will make an easy transition from being the suspects of an attempted murder case to the boring life of a fourth-grader where the only evil plotting takes place in a school cafeteria.
